Dialing a "1" after receiving a busy on an intercom call will execute "camp
on" *if* the receiving station has *not* set any type of call waiting (731x
where x=1 for regular, 2=OHCA(big screen phones only), 3=whisper OHCA,
0=off). If set, the "1" on busy will execute call waiting.
Having said that, a possible solution (especially for operators) would be to
program a phantom extension button at the receiving station and a one-touch
at the calling station. The phantom will ring in at the busy station and
automatically execute call waiting type 1 if any type is set. Having to
dial "1" on busy at other stations can be sold as a good thing - the caller
must *choose* to disturb the busy station and not other methods like
automatic call back ("6") or voice mail message (or e-mail!). On the other
hand, if the user is really serious about being notified, mabey whisper page
is appropriate.
N.B. - When the station receives a second call through the intercom pathway
(this includes phantom extension), pressing hold immediately executes call
splitting.
**All the preceeding information relates to KX-TD 816 or 1232 -4 or better
and NOT KX-TA or TD 500**

I'm pretty sure you can enable camp-on (AKA call waiting). That should give
you a camp-on tone while you are on the phone.
