Hi, James...

You could use a KX-T30865 door intercom, and disconnect the tiny
internal speaker and connect a $40 paging horn from RatShack. It will
probably reach about 30 - 50 feet, depending on ambient noise level.

Even a cheapie 7055 can handle paging announcements, and we have some
old first-generation system phones (KX-T30830 etc.)  that you can have
real cheap, especially if your kids clean them up. See picture at
