Can anyone verify whether Panasonic KX-TD ISDN boards have a full
compliment of registers for initiating or receiving calls?
Can anyone verify:
>kxt1232d only has two registers per 8 station card
This would mean that one would want to distribute analog phone
devices (like fax machines) around the system so that the various
cards.

We never had the courage to use Pano BRI cards, but
some basic info that might point to trouble shooting
isdn.
The call setup on isdn is all digital, on the D
channel, and there is no "dial-tone" etc. To provide
these "pacifier" tones, a BRI device with analog
("pots") ports will have "register(s)" that, provide a
dial tone, collect the dialled digits, then send them
as a digital packet on the D channel, then the CO will
set-up the call. Likewise, there is a similar
requirement to "receive" a call, the CO will send the
BRI device a packet on the D requesting a voice
connection, the device will generate a 105 v ring on
one of the two analog ports and watch for an off-hook
condition. When either the call is ready for setup
(has enough digits etc) or answer (port went off
hook) the register is released from the port and the
port is run to a a/d d/a converter that digitizes the
call to one of the two B channels.
As you might see, this "common" equipment is only
needed to setup or connect the call. So, to save
money, a cheap isdn device might have 2 analog ports
but only one register. So, while one port is dialing
or ringing, the other port cannot be dialing or
ringing. (But a call can be in progress, ie: someone
talking, this doesn't need a register)
A good example, motorola bitsurfer has ONE register.
You can get dialtone or ring voltage on port one OR
port two, but NEVER both at the same time.
An Express 3000 has two registers, you can be dialing
or ringing on both ports at the same time.
So, it's possible Pano has limited registers for BRI.
If they give you 4 for a 6 BRI card, only 4 of the
"12" lines can draw "dialtone" at a time. Sure sounds
like your symptoms.
BTW this isn't a isdn only issue, even the kxt1232d
only has two registers per 8 station card. thats why
there are timers on the first digit and inter-digit
delay. get dialtone, don't dial for 10 seconds, the
register is released for someone that IS ready to
dial, you get howler (or busy tone). since a register
is only needed 10 seconds, it makes sense to share one
per 4 stations.
(note, this is using all slts, the apits and dpits
cheat, the dtmf is for your benefit, the ksu gets the
key presses on the data pair and don't need a
register)
hope that helps.
btw, we use lots of bitsurfers, they last forever, and
an occasional slow dialtone is no problem. the 3000
does do neat stuff though, you can set first number to
be normal ring, and second number to be ring-ring.
calls will go to first then second port, for either
number, but the ring will id the called number by it's
ring patern, either port.

Dear KXTD
I have a installation with 5 basic rates ISDN on a KXTD1232E.When the
customer goes to access the CO lines they are very intermittent sometimes
there is a dial tone and other times not. This appears to be happening only
on one basic rate because I have swap the ports around and they work
perfectly.
I had out our PTT supplier and they have swap the box on that basic rate but
it still seems to be intermittent. All of the other four basic rates appear
to be fine
My settings are as follows for the basic rates are as follows
422 CO
423 PERMANENT
424 POINT
425 PERMANENT
426 FIX 0
