It's nothing like that. If I don't restrict the postings to subscribed addresses than the list will be flooded with spam. Just yesterday, 11 pieces of spam were caught that otherwise would have been mailed out to the list. I delayed restricting postings as long as I could, knowing it would cause trouble both for posters and for me (I have to go through all the rejects), but I was finally left with no choice.
