Here are my comments from previous posts over the years: The modem string that I use on my Zoom 2836 is as follows for KSU's:
ATL1Q1X2&D0&K0&Q6%C0S0=1&W To program the modem, I like connecting to the modem through a com port on a laptop, using procom plus, to write this AT command set in the ram. It can also be done by setting this up in the pana program and dialing 7911 on the phone to down load this from the ksu to the modem. I have not attempted to do it through the ksu. The extra commands "L1" turns the modem volume on low and "X2" ignores a busy signal, sometimes the double intercom ring is identified as a busy signal and the modem disconnects. USR is terrible for this. I also found that "Q1" needs to be set in the AT command string - "do not send response." This is not in the Pana instructions that I have but is a critical part. The VPS is set up the same but in some instances with different modems, I found that adding "E0" (do not echo commands) will work better. A standard 25 pin to 25 pin comm cable is what is required to connect the modem to the KSU, no null modem cable. KSU CONNECTION: Now that this is set up the next trick is to set the programming software to the correct dialing parameters. Need to have 3.13 or higher. Go to MODEM CONNECT. Enter the com port of the modem on your computer. The next trick is to set the interface to EXTERNAL 9600 BPS. The other options are ok as is. Make sure to enter the number to be dialed and the password. Then push F7 and you WILL connect. Once connected you should get a response pretty quick, within 15 seconds, that the connection is established. The total download will not be faster than a direct connection but it should not really be slower. Slow is when you have to wait about twice as long as it takes for a direct connection download. A connection to the VPS is very simple. Connect the 25 pin cable between the VPS and modem. Use procomm or hyper terminal, set the baud rate of the program connection to 9600, then use your computer to dial to the VPS modem. Once connected it will appear immediately as if you were directly connected and the speed will be the same as if you were directly connected. Security is not a big deal either way, the system asks for a password anyway plus the hacker has to know the phone number connected to the modem plus he has to know to us hyper term set with specific settings. If he gets through all of that, what information is he going to get? No MP3 audio files here, he can only set up some dialing problems. You should be able to put a modem on the serial port of the TVS. You'll need to sit down with both RS232 pinouts and hack up a cable to go between them. The modem will need to be settable to lock its port speed and likely pickup/drop DCE, etc. A friend is gung-ho on the Multitech modems, since they have lots of NVRAM-settable options, including "revert to NVRAM settings every hangup." I'd worry about security. Put the modem on a SLT port with a cable; label it. Call the customer to "plug you in" when needed, only. -- A host is a host from coast to [EMAIL PROTECTED] & no one will talk to a host that's close........[v].(301) 56-LINUX Unless the host (that isn't close).........................pob 1433 is busy, hung or dead....................................20915-1433 _________________________________________________________________ KX-T Mailing list --- http://kxthelp.com/ Subscription changes: http://kxthelp.com/mailman/listinfo/kxt multipart/alternative text/plain (text body -- kept) text/html _________________________________________________________________ KX-T Mailing list --- http://kxthelp.com/ Subscription changes: http://kxthelp.com/mailman/listinfo/kxt
