Just replaced the hard drive in our TVS200 a few weeks ago. It was failing, and
locking up the unit/making it unbootable, so I ordered a replacement ($366) from
Panasonic.

The old drive was a Quantum Fireball LCT15 (30GB), the replacemenrt was an IBM
20GB I believe.

Using the "putting the hard drive in the freezer" method, I was able to get the
TVS200 working long enough to download the various files (a few were 20MB) over
the serial port.

After installing the new drive, I uploaded all of the files I was able to
back-up, and all of the users voicemail boxes were there, as well as their
outgoing (but not incoming) messages.

Going from memory, the old software was version 2.63? The new disk had version
3.03 I believe.

So far the only difference that I've noticed is that the new software's voice
talks *much* faster, which makes the system feel snapier (perhaps the new
software makes it faster as well).

Subject: KX-T: KX-TVS* Hard disk survey

Since my last message, several people have indicated more diversity
in the installed base of KX-TVS200 disk drives than then service
manual suggests.

Since I routinely read the manuals, I recall that the KX-TVS200 has a
command that will upload/download program, prompts, and configuration
to the VPS via the serial port. I have not tried this. It must be
very slow. However, if one can download the program to a blank disk,
the ROM must be responsible for at least some part of the terminal
monitoring and disk I/O.

I propose a survey to collect information that will help support the
goal of "know which replacement disks might work in the VM systems".
I will collect the information, tabulate it, and post the results to
this list with no attribution to the sender.

If you wish to participate in this survey, please send to me via
e-mail (private and/or to the list)

    1. the model of your VM system (KX-TVS200, KX-TVS220, etc.)
    2. the drive manufacturer, Model, and capacity (if
visible on the drive)
    3. the text printed on the small label affixed to the
VPS (I saw one with the program version, the text "HDD1", and a date
in YYMMDD format)
    4. the result of the vers command entered from the
command line. (this gives both the program version and the ROM
version)
