Hi Mark,

I've heard of power supply problems with those units.
You can go to Panasonic's website and find the link for "dealer locator" and 
put in your zip code to find dealers in your area.  It asks for which model 
you need help with, I would put in KX-TD1232, then either ask if they are 
able to help you with the older unit or you may expect them to try to sell 
you a newer unit.
