We use to go into Panasonic at Secaucus and they would burn us a new chip at
no charge
I don't know if VND stocks any of these
But call John Altamont at communicator Tel, I think he still has a EPROM
burner

-3 gave parallel connection and a few more programming options

All programming thru handset

Is there a way to change the software in these units from 1 to 3? Any
significant advantage in 3 versus 1?

The -3 version provided corrected restriction tables to allow for the NANP
changes that occurred in 1995. -1 and -2 versions were limited in the
number of tables and lengths of digits. The deny and allow tables were too
simplistic. The -3 also gave you parallel connection of SLT with proprietary
phones, auto CO line access for each extension, programmable call waiting
tone, improved door phone & door opener features with the new KX-T30866 door
opener adaptor. The -3 is the way to go on these units.

Can the RS-232 port in these units be used to program the box just like
you would with a kx-t7030 phone?

No , only programming thru the phone was allowed. You could data dump the

programming as a text file to a printer or laptop in capture mode with
procomm plus or similar terminal emulation program. The KX-T123211D could
be programmed via RS-232 in EIA mode as an ASCII text file, but was a real
PITA to get formatted correctly to accept the file. If a line was wrong in
the file, you would get syntax errors, and would have to program by the
phone anyway.
