This is a long tale and I will try and remember all
the details but I'm hoping someone can shed some light
on the issue.
I have a 1232 master slave setup at a business they
have just moved offices and that's when we added the
slave, back then everything was operating fine.
Now in the new office I have things mostly working but
there have been intermittent problems with various
extensions I have been focusing primarily on just one
that seems to have the problems the most.
She states that while she's on a call she gets cut
off, the timing and conditions are all random. I have
tried numerous times to replicate the issue but always
works flawlessly for me. From what I gather the call
is just cut off, not that the phone is powering off
and on but then I haven't witnessed it either. I have
changed pairs, cables, phones, phone cords,
extensions, from one system to the other, and
re-terminated everything associated with her
extension.
The last attempt was to switch her extension to
another wire in the same room. Apparently the problem
has continued and they got the phone company out to
check the CO lines and said they were fine, then they
hooked some sort of tester up to the internal lines
and said there was a short on 140 which is in the same
room but not the phone that originally was having the
most problems but coincidentally was what we moved the
gal that was having the most problems to.
The brunt of the questions is can a problem (short)
with one extension affect many others?
Or does anyone have any other suggestions for
troubleshooting, I'm running out of ideas.
My last thoughts were that the cable run was bad but
I'm pretty sure we isolated that unless there were
multiple bad runs.
I don't really have any spare parts or systems to swap
out with, and the slave system was actually swapped
from a known good install cause the one we bought was
an incompatible version.
Any insight will be appreciated
Zach
