I have a small hotel / condominium with 12 rooms, each currently with its
own POTS line. The rooms are mostly used only in the winter (ski town).
To save money, the owner has been turning off the phone lines with the TelCo
during the months they are not occupied. They have asked me for a better
way to reduce costs.
I have suggested a solution: a KX-TA824 configured for 3 CO lines and 12
stations and an auto-attendant card. It's unlikely more than three lines
would be in use at the same time as most people now use their cell phones,
but this would provide a land line to each room for incoming and outgoing
calls. Each room would use its existing POTS phone and not a proprietary
phone. No office or operator is available on site, so the auto-attendant
would answer incoming calls and ask the caller to enter the room number.
Voicemail is not needed.
A few questions: does anyone see any problems with this that I have not
thought of? Is DID support available for this system? (most likely not
needed for this application but it would be nice to know); and, does
caller-ID relay through to the analog phones from a auto-attendant directed
call?
It seems like a simple application, but it's been a while since I have
installed one of these and I want to get it right.
Thanks for your help in advance,
Clay Archer
