It's odd, but my modem 56K connects reliably to NTLworld through the Pan at
48800 19 times out of twenty and if I go direct it only rarely does any
better (51000 IIRC once in a while)
Oddly though, another ISP I use results in connect speeds of 31000 almost
every time - but is often not much higher if I connect directly.
Certainly with my main connection to the net, I always go through the
KXTA1232 and 95% of the time I connect at 48800.
Not sure why I'm being so lucky here, even the cable between the modem and
the system is less than ideal (sitting 10mm above a mains feed for about 25
feet!) Then there are no less than three Krone connector blocks before it
finally get's to the CO line.
I am using an old analogue KXTA1232 0BE and the modem is a "Web Excel" in
case anyone's interested :)
