Hi. I have been working on tdf bug 56258 related to improving numbering outline list formats.
First of all, I wanted to inform that I made all of the locales that had identical LC_NumberingLevel definitions to instead just refer to ref="en_US", meaning that any improvements to the US numbering will automatically apply to these locales as well. At this point, no changes have been made to this simple list. https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/c/core/+/144890 Secondly, I have added the ability to specify whether numbering should be left or right (or center) aligned. Roman numerals and old Hungarian tends to look much better when they are right aligned. The built-in numbering styles already did that, and I extended it so that it can also work for these LC_OutlineNumberingLevel definitions. See https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/c/core/+/144978 where this was done for en_US.xml. I only changed en_US, but of course many other locales are also using NumType="3" and NumType="4". If your locale is not referencing en_US, you probably want to make the same changes if any of your levels use upper or lower roman-numbering. Thirdly, for en_US I also tweaked three of the outline levels. (You can find these lists in the Format menu, under “Bullets and Numbering – Outline tab”.) Specifically, I made these changes: I.A.i.a) → I.A.1.a.i. <!-- MLA/CMOS standard --> 1.a) → 1) a) 1) A) <!-- standard 4 levels defined, introduce an all “)” list option --> 1. (a) i. A. → A.1.a.1. <!-- inconsistent/illogical list changed to practical modern alternative) Most locale’s use en_US.xml as their reference for LC_OutlineNumberingLevel and so will automatically receive these improvements. If you do not want these changes to apply to your locale, then copy the old definitions instead of using ref=”en_US”. -https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/c/core/+/145147 -https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/c/core/+/145155 -https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/c/core/+/145156 This third point is especially important for locales dv_MV, is_IS, kmr_Latn_TR, lt_LT, mk_MK, shs_CA, sl_SI, vi_VN, because I changed their identical-copy-of-US-definitions to become a reference - made by this change: https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/c/core/+/144945. (I already sent a direct email to a contact for each of these.) Please contact me if you have questions or want any help.
