We have done some minor tuning on the VM, it should not give a big
performance boost, but great if it does.

We are are waiting for version 2.5 to be released (is in beta now). Once
2.5 is released we will do a upgrade and look at the available option.

The option you ask for, is one I would like to see as well. In the current
version it would be a security risk (if uploaded by non-committers), but I
have heard that the new version has new possibilities.
