You are right! This was probably a small glitch in Jan's massive cleanup of "x-comment". Translate it as if the extra part, i.e., "(except..." was not there.
This is tracked in https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=122792 and should be fixed before the next Pootle update.
