Sure, FDs 0 to 2 are always granted, but that's not the case for the other FDs. BTW, Emacs also has an `unexec' feature which might be of interest: http://cvs.savannah.gnu.org/viewcvs/emacs/emacs/src/unexec.c?rev=1.40&view=auto .
