"The corporate charter is a privilege and it can be con- ditioned. Just like a crooked labor union, under existing laws, can be thrown into a trusteeship, with the union leaders removed. We don't have that for corporations. The only time a corporation can be thrown into trusteeship is if it doesn't pay its creditors, and goes into bankruptcy. I'm saying it should be standard for corporations that are persistent polluters, persistent law-violators, persistent defrauders of consumers that the charter is pulled and it is thrown into trusteeship. It still keeps its doors open but the board of directors and the officers are removed. The trustees take over to straighten out the corporation. I think that's a very powerful tool that goes right to the core of the creation of the corporation." --Ralph Nader Interview with Steve Law Statesman Journal (Oregon) August 26, 2000 <http://news.statesmanjournal.com/single_article.cfm?i=12116> -30- -------------------------------------------------------------------------- LAAMN-ANNOUNCE: Los Angeles Alternative Media Network - Announcements -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unsubscribe: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?body=unsubscribe%20laamn-announce> -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subscribe: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?body=subscribe%20laamn-announce> -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Digest: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?body=subscribe%20laamn-announce-digest> -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Help: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?subject=laamn-announce> -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Archive1: <http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]> -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Archive2: <http://www.egroups.com/messages/laamn-announce> -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Archive3: <http://archive.tao.ca> -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Post: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> -------------------------------------------------------------------------- <home.labridge.com/~laamn> | LAAMN | <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> --------------------------------------------------------------------------
