Irvine -- Subversity, a public affairs program on KUCI, Tuesday February
27, 20001 features a discussion with John Earl, assistant to the president
of Local 681, Hotel Employees & Restaurant Employees Union, on the
situation in Anaheim, where critics of a city ordinance requiring IDs for
certain janitors and hotel employees are fighting enforcement of the
ordinance, which they argue is unconstitutional. Anaheim has also been the
locus of anti-immigrant sentiment in recent months. The show airs from
4-5 p.m. on KUCI, 88.9 fm in Orange County, and is Webcast at kuci.org
simultaneously.

We also discuss the union's recent successful drive to add more members,
and its fight to unionize the Crown Plaza Hotel in Garden Grove.

For more information on the Orange County local, see:

Earl formerly hosted "The News Gap" on KUCI, where it aired for several
years.

Earl and other critics of the ordinance are showing up at the Anaheim City
Council meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday right after the show. The council meets
at City Council Chambers, City Hall East, 200 South Anaheim Blvd.,
Anaheim. According to Earl, the city declined to place the matter on the
agenda, but opponents of the law hope to raise the issue during "public
speaking" segment of the meeting. Other community members and people
interested in civil rights are expected to show up.
