Irvine -- In the wake of the latest school shootings at Santee,
California, what are we to make of it? Is this a trend? Or an isolated
incident?

Tim Wise, a social critic, wonders why there is all this hubbub when white
kids are killed by white teens. And Mike Males says kids aren't the
problem, not even white kids. Adults are.

We chat with Wise and Males on Subversity at KUCI, 88.9 fm in Orange
County this Tuesday from 4-5 p.m. (March 13) and on the web at kuci.org at
the same time.

Wise, a social justice activist since his teens, is co-founder of
Association for White Anti-Racist Education. He is based in Nashville. A
collection of his essays, Speaking Treason Fluently: Anti-Racist
Reflections From an Angry White Male, will be released in 2001. He has
debated Ward Connerly and Dinesh D'Souza. His commentary often appears on
ZNet: http://www.zmag.org/weluser.htm

Males is a graduate of the Ph.D program in Social Ecology. An author of
several books about the scapegoating of youth, his most recent essay was
in Sunday's Los Angeles Times ("The Real Story Left Untold: It's Time to
Junk the Cliches about Kids and Guns":
http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/20010310/t000021352.html). He is based
in Santa Cruz. It has appeared on Subversity many times.
