Dear Friends: This Sunday at 10 a.m. we are sponsoring Jonathan Parfrey, Executive Director of Physicians for Social Responsiblity, in a talk on Bush's Missile Defense System. We cordially invite you to come and participate. Let's really make every effort to see that we do not get involved in weaponizing space. It will be very hard, if not impossible, to reverse that trend once it gets fully launched. The meeting is at Unity-and-Diversity World Council, 5521 Grosvenor Blvd., Los Angeles Westwide (near Jefferson and Centinela). Take the San Diego Fwy. to Jefferson, turn west toward ocean and go one block beyond the second Centinela, turn right on Grosvenor to the second building on the left. THEME: THE PUBLIC HEALTH RISKS OF WEAPONS IN SPACE Jonathan Parfrey will speak about the present status of the Bush administration’s missile defense system and the risks which it poses for human life on planet earth. The United Nations has an outer space treaty which mandates that outer space be kept for peaceful uses. We would be going against that treaty and most of the peoples and nations of the world if we unilaterally proceed with such a development. It is time for all of us to realize what is at stake and to insist that our wishes be heard. PRESENTER: JONATHAN PARFREYJonathan Parfrey, Executive Director of Physicians for Social Responsibility-Los Angeles, was educated at the University of California. He currently sits on the EPA Workgroup at the Santa Susana Field Laboratory and on the Community Technology Board of the Liberty Hill Foundation. In 1992 he received the Paul S. Delp Award for Outstanding Service, Peace and Social Justice. Physicians for Social Responsibility is committed to eliminating weapons of mass destruction, preserving a sustainable environment, and reducing violence and its causes.
