Irvine -- One of the first casualties of war is civil liberties. Civil
rights attorney Carol Sobel, on the frontlines of many recent community
struggles, will be our guest on Subversity, a KUCI radio program, this
afternoon from 5-6 p.m. on 88.9 fm in Orange County, Calif., and via the
Web through http://kuci.org.

Sobel worked at the ACLU for 20 years and is now in private practice,
continuing to represent community activists, students and teachers in
Southern California in First Amendment cases. She serves on the executive
board of the National Lawyers Guild in Los Angeles.

She was last on Subversity last year talking about the D2K protests at the
Staples Center, where she was hit by a police projectile between her
eyes while acting as a legal observer.

Sobel was also among the panel of ACLU attorneys who represented me in my
successful lawsuit against the CIA for spying on me. The CIA promised not
to spy on me again (Don't believe it! More on that on the air) and
settled the case out of court for $46,000. For more on that case, see my
L.A. Times op ed: "A CIA target at home"
(http://sun3.lib.uci.edu/~dtsang/ciatarget.htm). See also my lead attorney
Kate Martin's letter to the Washington Post about this case:
"Domestic CIA Snooping" (http://sun3.lib.uci.edu/~dtsang/cnss.pdf).
Martin spoke about this case on another Subversity show:

To chat with Sobel, you can call (949) 824-5824 during the show. You can
