TSUNAMI BENEFIT CONCERT, SUNDAY JANUARY 16 -----------------------------------------
Twenty Los Angeles-based performers are joining together to raise funds for humanitarian relief efforts in tsunami-ravaged Southeast Asia. The afternoon of dance, music and poetry will take place at The Workmen's Circle (1525 S. Robertson Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90035) on Sunday, January 16 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. All proceeds will go to the American Jewish World Service (AJWS) Asia Tsunami Relief Fund. The concert is being organized by Joseph DeRusha of the klezmer/hip hop group the Alef Project. The benefit performance will feature new works by local artists in memory of the tsunami victims, classical Indian music and dance, and Middle Eastern folk music and dance. Performers scheduled to appear include folk singer Ross Altman, choreographer and dancer Susan Goldberg, the Alef Project, and political satire and music from Billionaires for Bush. The suggested donation for attendance at the event is $25.00. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. Advanced seating reservations may be made by calling 310.552.2007. (AJWS (www.ajws.org) is providing humanitarian aid to tsunami victims through non-governmental, community-based organizations in the region that are assessing needs and providing emergency relief and reconstruction. AJWS is also partnering with Direct Relief International to provide immediate shipments of basic medical supplies, water purification materials and oral rehydration therapies in India and Sri Lanka, and with Church World Service in Indonesia to provide emergency relief). ------------------------ Yahoo!
