Lee is still unhappily held against her will by a temporary conservator at an assisted living facility in West Hollywood. She has nothing to do all day, gets no exercise or mental stimulation, and dislikes the food there. Lee is used to being read to every day, going for walks, going out to concerts, movies and restaurants, leading an active social life with lots of conversation, and going dancing. Now she is not allowed to leave the facility where she is held. Casey and Marilyn are only allowed to visit her for one hour on odd-numbered days. What you can do: 1) Send a birthday card; 2) Go visit Lee (contact Casey or Marilyn for details at 2113-385-2786) 3) Come to court on Wednesday, June 15 at 1:30 p.m. We are supporting appointment of our family friend Maureen McGrath as conservator, to replace the temporary conservator who took Lee from her happy home and placed her into the facility. The courtroom is Department 11, in Room 246 on the 2nd floor of Los Angeles Superior Court, 111 North Hill St., at First Street in downtown Los Angeles near the Metro Red Line Civic Center Station. Free parking is available on or near Grand Avenue, north of Cesar Chavez Blvd. 4) Write a letter It should be from your point of view about Lee Peters’ right to remain in her own home with family caregivers. You may draw upon your own family’s experiences. If you have met Lee at a social event, or have been to her house, please tell us about it. Highlight her personality, social interaction with others, and her still-sharp sense of humor. Note that due to her blindness, partial deafness and dementia, she is dependent on her son Casey to maintain an active life, mentally, physically, and socially. This will help to show the court that this matter is not just “two sons against one” but two sons against their mother, their brother, Lee’s four grandchildren, all of Lee’s neighbors, and a greater community in which Lee leads and active social life.
