Dear Friends of the Midnight Special Bookstore and Margie Ghiz:
The Lawyers Guild is honoring the Midnight Special Bookstore and Margie
Ghiz at our annual dinner on Sunday, June 26, 2005 to be held at the
Pasadena Hilton Hotel, 168 S. Los Robles Avenue. (We are a new hotel this
year because we are boycotting the Wilshire Grand Hotel in Solidarity with
the workers of UNITE/HERE.) The attached ticket and ad journal order form
allows you to participate in this long-over-due and much deserved tribute
to the store and to Margie.
The Lawyers Guild is a 68-year old human rights bar association dedicated
to the proposition that human rights are more sacred than property
interests. For nearly 70 years now we have been hard at work defending
workers, and political activists in the civil rights, women?s rights,
immigrants rights, and peace movements. In the course of our work we have
often defended unpopular political activists that others would not. It is
our great appreciation for the way Margie and the bookstore made the store
available to political activists and thinkers during its years of operation
that moved us to honor them. Their contribution to the cause of peace and
social justice simply cannot be over-stated. And we thank them for allowing
us to honor them and, in the process, secure much needed funds for our
on-going work for peace and social justice.
So please use the enclosed order form [the attachment] to mail us your
dinner ticket and journal ad orders. (Ad copy is due by June 15th.) Any
