House and proceed to Klein Park on Mesquite Street in Las Cruces, NM.

state and communities throughout the Southwest.
Latino leaders which represent our border states, are uniting to support
social justice and

immigration reforms, support the efforts of established immigration and law
enforcement authorities, and work to combat racial discrimination and
uphold civil rights.

CALIFORNIA STATE CONFERENCE

Angel Luevano, California State Director,

A national Hispanic advocacy organization, the League of United Latin
American Citizens, is calling on California Attorney General Bill Lockyer
to seek an injunction against an anti immigrant group known as the
Minuteman Project. An e-mail intercepted by LULAC officials (see attached)
indicates the group is encouraging armed persons to confront Hispanics on
the California border this weekend.
California LULAC State Director Angel Luevano said the group poses a
serious danger to the public because "they are untrained vigilantes who
have no legal authority to act or detain anyone". LULAC has also asked
Lockyer to investigate whether the apparent sender of the e-mail, believed
to be a former law enforcement officer, is violating California law by
encouraging armed patrols of the border.
LULAC also plans to seek a federal investigation into the group to
determine if organizers are violating the civil rights of those persons
detained illegally. "Armed vigilantes will end up hurting or killing
someone" said LULAC's National Vice president Dave Rodriguez.
With approximately 115,000 members throughout the United States and Puerto
Rico, LULAC is the largest and oldest Hispanic Organization in the United
States. LULAC advances the economic condition, educational attainment,
political influence, health and civil rights of Hispanic Americans through
community-based programs operating at more than 700 LULAC chapters
nationwide. The organization involves and serves all Hispanic nationality
groups.
