MUMIA IS INNOCENT,
But Execution Still Looms
WE MUST ACT
New Interview by Mumia's Lawyer
July 29, 2005--Award-winning journalist, former Black Panther and
political prisoner Mumia Abu-Jamal needs your help. Although all the
witnesses
against him have been discredited, his 1982 trial has been shown to be a
racist
travesty, and another man has confessed to the crime; the courts have
refused to
hear the evidence that could free Mumia--and execution still looms!
Mumia's lawyer, Robert R Bryan of San Francisco, has done a new radio
interview to lay out the facts of Mumia's innocence, and urge protest
action on
his behalf. Interviewing Bryan was Kiilu Nyasha, also a radio journalist and
former member of the Black Panther Party. This interview, about a
half-hour in
length, is being made available to radio stations around the country to bring
public awareness of the outrageous injustice still being perpetrated against
this courageous fighter.
We want to encourage you, the activists who support Mumia and are anxious
to find some way you can help him, to try to get this interview broadcast on
local radio stations. The interview includes the following key points that
people need to be made aware of:
- Mumia is still on death row and faced with execution, despite a
federal court ruling some years ago which put a TEMPORARY stay on his death
sentence. (Given the courts' continued refusal to hear eveidence of Mumia's
innocence, the stay could be lifted at any time.)
- All the witnesses against Mumia have been discredited, some by their
own admission, and a man was seen fleeing the scene who may have been the real
killer.
- Another man has come forward to say that he was (one of) the killers.
The courts have refused even to take his deposition!
- The trial was racist--Blacks were mostly kept off the jury, and the
judge was overheard to say, "Yeah, and I'm gonna help 'em fry the
n----r"! As
if that wasn't enough, Mumia was prevented from representing himself, and
excluded from most of his own trial!
- Mumia is a victim of ineffective assistance of (previous) counsel, a
major factor in convictions of many death-row inmates.
- Despite incarceration for 23 years on death row, Mumia Abu-Jamal
continues his incisive radio commentaries, covering the war, racism and
many other
critical issues. He refuses to be silenced!

Our silence now could mean a new death order for Mumia. Let us help get
the facts of Mumia's case for innocence into public consciousness. You can
ask that your local stations re-broadcast Kiilu Nyasha's interview with
Mumia's lawyer, Robert Bryan. The interview--which aired on Pacifica
station KPFA,
Berkeley, --may be downloaded as an mp3 file from
<http://www.kpfa.org>www.kpfa.org, in the
archives for "Cover to Cover" for Monday 25 July 2005. The full version of
the
interview airs again on KPOO (San Francisco) at 11 AM on August 4th, 2005.
Call your local radio stations--Pacifica stations, local micro
broadcasters, and any station that seriously covers issues. Be sure to try
local NPR
stations--the National Public Radio network once censored Mumia's commentries
off the network, at the behest of a right-wing congressman. Let's not let
them
get away with silencing Mumia.
Radio stations or individuals may obtain a copy of the interview for
rebroadcast, at <A
