From: "Howard Keylor" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> (by way of Tom Condit <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>) Subject: Mumia - note of appreciation & concerning case issues / From Attorney Robert Bryan / 30 Sept, 05
Dear Friends: Mumia has written asking that I convey his appreciation for your support of our ongoing litigation to win a reversal of his conviction and death sentence, a new and fair trial, and his freedom. He also wants be sure people understand what are the issues in the case. These include: (1) an unfair trial process that was permeated by racism; (2) Mumia's removal from significant portions of his own trial; (3) the denial of the right to self-representation; (4) being defended by an incompetent court-appointed lawyer; (5) a biased and bigoted trial judge who presided over the trial; (6) police misconduct that resulted in the presentation of false evidence against my client; and, (7) the prosecutorial use of racism in the jury-selection process. My associates, including Professor Judith L. Ritter, and I are actively litigating these & related issues before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. The following is what Mumia wrote, the original of which is attached: "Dear Brothers and Sisters: Ona Move! This is just a note to send my heartfelt thanks to all of you; you from every corner of the nation and globe, in your hundreds, and tens of thousands, have gathered, protested, marched, and sat in . . . how I thank you! Your loving yet militant support has been an inspiration. We are not done yet! The struggle for life, for liberty, yet goes on. As we struggle on, the issues of unfairness remain; an unfair judge; an unfair process, a jury unfairly stripped of people of color. These injustices have still not been fairly and truly redressed. With your help, we'll not just struggle, but win! Only in America can a court reporter hear a judge say, 'Im going to help them fry the n****r!,' report it, and the judiciary turns a blind eye! And yet, we struggle on, for life and liberty, which, with your help, we'll gain. Thank you Mumia Abu-Jamal Summer 05" Your ongoing effort in this great campaign to defeat the death penalty and free Mumia, is humbly appreciated. With best wishes, Robert R.
