War, Poverty, Racism: Time for an Alternative! Southern California Socialist Conference October 29th, 10am-7pm EAST LOS ANGELES COLLEGE 1301 AVENIDA CESAR CHAVEZ, MONTEREY PARK FOR MORE INFORMATION: 213-309-2713 [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sponsored by: The International Socialist Organization www.socialistworker.org <http://www.socialistworker.org/> We live at a time when billions are spent on an increasingly unpopular war while politicians plot to rob retirees and the disabled of their Social Security; when the Democratic Party talks more about finding "common ground" with conservatives than of opposing them; and when the media acts as a propaganda arm of the Pentagon and the U.S. government. Here in Southern California in recent months, we've fought the Minutemen and other anti-immigrant vigilantes. We've protested the war and turned back military recruiters. We've spoken out against wrongful executions, attempted to rebuild the labor movement, and walked the picket line with janitors. We've listened to the testimonies of war resistor Pablo Paredes, of British MP George Galloway, of Stan Tookie Williams from California's Death Row, of Howard Zinn and the forgotten voices of a people's history. Clearly, the need for an alternative on the left; an alternative that speaks to the millions of ordinary people who are fed up with war, attacks on workers and threats to our civil rights, is more pressing than ever. Building that alternative is up to us, and the Southern California Socialist Conference is a great place to start.
