  Call for Workshop Proposals

The theme of the 2005/2006 Human Rights Committee Annual Conference, is 
Human Rights and the Environment.  The Conference is scheduled to 
coincide with Earth Day.

The UTLA (United Teachers' Los Angeles) Human Rights Committee extends a 
call for proposals for 1 1/4 hour workshops as well as films and plenary 
topics, to be presented at its conference on April 21 and 22, 2006.

All workshops will be conducted on Saturday April 21. Films and 
plenaries will be conducted both days.

Over the course of the weekend the conference will explore the 
connection of environmental policy and devastation with human rights.

Suggested topics include: environmental racism (in LAUSD, in our 
communities, around the nation, around the world,) water wars, depleted 
uranium, gmo's, Katrina, mining, industrial waste, urban planning, 
privatization and the environment. colonialism,  global warming, organic 
gardening, living in our environment, art and the environment, human 
culture and the environment, population management and eugenics, 
reproductive rights and health, nutrition and fast foods, agribusiness, 
pesticides and workers rights, keeping healthy, health care, long term 
effects of environmental disasters (Bhopal, 3 Mile Island, Chernobyl, 
Love Canal, Exxon Valdez), Community and student empowerment, activism, 
awareness, mobilization.
 
Workshop proposals  must include a workshop title, description including 
targeted grade level/s and subject/s, bio, resume or curriculum vitae of 
the proposed workshop presenter, materials needed, contact information 
(email, school, phone number), workshop content and strategies, how the 
workshop applies to the theme, and where it may have been presented 
previously.
