WALL
A cinematic meditation on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict
A Film by SIMONE BITTON
Simon Bitton etches a haunting portrait of one of the most
profound geographical makers of our time-the wall of
separation constructed by Israel that shields it from
adjacent, conflicted Palestinian territories. With masterful
restraint, Bitton both abstracts her subjects and extracts
its key contradiction as a strangulating protector of life.
With interviews from people living on both sides, and with
a sharp and knowing camera, this absorbing documentary,
in an exceptionally evenhanded manner, shows how the
Wall is destroying one of the most historically significant
landscapes in the world, while imprisoning one people
and enclosing the other.

#3 "Rewriting the Linear Notes of History" at CSUF
Thursday, December 1st
CSU Fullerton's Middle Eastern Student Society (MESS), in
conjunction with Muslim Student Association (MSA) &
Hip Hop Congress presents:
Cultural Soundtracks:
Rewriting the Linear Notes of History
A performance by Mark Gonzales & Jackie Salloum
Where: Becker Amphitheater, Cal State Fullerton
When: Thursday, December 1st @ 8:30 p.m
Open to the Public
MESS, MSA & HHC are pleased to invite you to attend
a Hip Hop and spoken-word performance by Mark Gonzales,
Jackie Salloum and others. This event will combine conventional
lecture with performance and film as a means of exploring how
culture is not only a tool for education and survival, but is the
embodiment of said education and survival. The audience will
receive exclusive advance screening of clips from Jackies
upcoming film Slingshot Hip Hop, as well as a performance
by HBO Def Poet Mark Gonzales, Post-performance Jackie and
Mark will host a discussion between themselves and the audience
to better facilitate the transfer of information and ideas.
Jackie Salloum is a documentarist of Palestinian descent
whose films have screened in Germany, London, and New
York. Her film short: Planet of the Arabs illuminates how the
historical depictions of Arabs within Hollywood cinematography
is linked to their current dehumanization. Planet of the Arabs
received critical acclaim at the Sundance Film Festival. Her
upcoming film, Slingshot Hip Hop, follows the rise of the Hip Hop
movement in Palestine as non-violent resistance. Through the
culture of music, Palestinians from Gaza and the West Bank, as
well as Arab Israelis from Tel Aviv, challenge the historical
narrative of their non-existence.
Mark Gonzales is an HBO Def Poet, Playwright, and Performance
Lecturer who has spoken in front of members of the United Nations
and the U.S. Congress. An advocate of Indigenous Rights, Mark
uses the tool of spoken word and Hip Hop Theatre to draw cross-
continental parallels through cultures as a means of reshaping the
geography of the imagination. His lecture topics draw upon a wide
range of subjects, including Hip Hop and Hegemony, which
correlates African Drums to Drum Tracks, Muralists to Marxism,
and the West Coast to the West Bank. He was recently offered a
UCLA fellowship to obtain a Masters in Education.

We have decided to move our serving day and free
Market to Saturday, as opposed to Sunday. San
Clemente Food Not Bombs, beginning in March, will
be serving in Max Berg Park at 3pm every Saturday.
Some new projects within San Clemente Food Not
Bombs have been:
providing clothes, house supplies, appliances, and anything
else donated that would be of use to the lower income families
which we work with in our community.
Books Not Bombs. BNB collects and redistrubutes reading
material, preferably progressive and historical writings,
and offers them to the community at no cost. BNB looks to
collect, among others, childrens books to be distrubuted to
as Palmas Elememtary School, located across from the
park which SCFNB serves at.
Finally, SCFNB has begun a small collection of youth working
to send items and love into the prison industrial complex.

#7 Every Sunday evening in Huntington Beach:
"Peace vigil every Sunday night at the foot of the
Huntington Beach Pier, 7-8 pm
We are a small group of people who believe in
non-violence both physically and in our thoughts.
We stand at the pier with a sign that says:"Visualize
World Peace. It's up to you". We want people to
start believing that it is possible to have a world at
peace, even if it's hard for most people to even
imagine it. We will discuss peace and non-violence
in a spirit of dignity and respect with anyone who
is rational and smile quietly at those who aren't.
With all the violence in our world, we seek to
encourage people to look at the alternative - to seek
peace in their hearts and in our world.
