PLEASE TAKE A MINUTE AN CALL TODAY: Save Tookie Williams!
Time is running out for Stan Tookie Williams, a former Crips member who
has transformed his life to become an inspirational voice of peace for
young people around the world. He is scheduled to be killed by lethal
injection at San Quentin on Dec. 13th. Despite compelling evidence that
Tookie was convicted based on circumstantial evidence from people who
were facing felony charges at the time, the U.S. Supreme Court recently
refused his appeal to investigate the racial discrimination at the heart
of his case.

This Thursday, December 8, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger will hold a
clemency hearing on Tookie's case. He is not calling for his release
from prison, merely the opportunity to spend the rest of his life
continuing to educate young people to avoid gangs, crime and
incarceration. Please take a moment to call the governor today at
916-445-2841. Urge him to consider Tookie's redemptive work at the
clemency hearing. You can also send the governor a letter at
http://www.savetookie.org>http://www.savetookie.org

Save the South Central Farmers!!!!
Since 1992, the 14 acres of property located at 41st and Alameda Streets
in Los Angeleshave been used as a community garden or farm. The land
has beendivided into 360 plots and is believed to be one of the largest
urban gardens in the country. The City of Los Angeles acquired the
14-acre property by eminent domain in the late 1980s, taking it from
nine private landowners. The largest of these owners, Alameda-Barbara
Investment Company ("Alameda"), owned approximately 80 percent of the
site. The partners of Alameda were Ralph Horowitz and Jacob Libaw. The
City originally intended to use the property for a trash incinerator,
but abandoned that plan in the face of public protest organized by
Juanita Tate and the Concerned Citizens of South Central Los Angeles.

Following the uprising in 1992, the City set aside the 14-acre site for
use as a community garden. In 1994, the City transferred title to the
property by ordinance to its Harbor Department. When it received title
to the property, the Harbor Department contracted with the Los Angeles
Regional Foodbank to operate the property as a community garden; the
Foodbank has been operating it as such since then.

In 1995 the city has sold the property back to Horowitz and Libaw, who
wish to destroy the garden and turn it into a warehouse.

For more information, action, events and to add yourself to the mailing
list, go to: http://www.southcentralfarmers.com

If you haven't been to the farm, it is well worth the trip. Out of a
bleak industrial zone, rises an oasis of banana, citrus and palm trees
along with 360 family plots with vegetable and friut varieties that are
often unavailable in Los Angeles markets. The garden is a lush vibrant
testiment to organic sustainable agriculture and biodiversity.
