I agree, good interview to watch
==============
This interview on Charlie Rose was fascinating and
chilling regarding ongoing U.S. practices in foreign
policy. I highly recommend catching the re-broadcast
(see info below).

Stephen Gaghan,
Writer/Director, "Syriana"
Here are are two comments from others regarding this
interview:
I enjoyed Gaghan's interview and can well understand
his state of mind/reactions while researching his
script. To someone on the "outside" (not employed by
the CIA), learning what really goes on behind the
scenes is shocking and deeply disturbing. How could
anyone not react with a certain amount of incredulous
disbelief? That was certainly my first reaction when I
joined the CIA. I worked in the DO (Directorate of
Operations) for six years and saw Bob Baer ("See No
Evil") occasionally. He is a very, very sharp guy.
Since Gaghan was able to pick his brain, I suspect
there is considerable truth in "Syriana." Geopolitics
is incredibly complex, convoluted (why Gaghan kept
saying it). Putting the pieces of the puzzle together
is no easy task, and so I applaud him for his efforts
with "Syriana." How many Americans know that the grab
for oil was THE reason we invaded Iraq? Not enough.
What I learned from the CIA is that nothing is
unimagineable when it comes to power and corruption -
nothing. Just when you think you've seen and heard it
all, up comes another terrible surprise, twist. Yes, I
listened to Gaghan with awe, vividly recalling that
rarified environment I once worked in. Is all this
stuff 'cool?' No, it is not 'cool.' Like life itself,
it is horrific.

Ah, the underworld of oil and politics. Writing about
the underworld of politics is tricky business. Stephen
Gaghan is to be applauded for his ability to be so
dedicated to his craft, that he went to great lengths
to discover pieces of the puzzle.
His willingness to speak out and give people a glimpse
into the nasty and deadly world geopolitical situation
is something I wish Politicans would start doing.
I had the opportunity to hear the leaders of the Oil
Workers Union speak in Portland, Oregon last year.
They like, every middle class American just want to
have jobs and security for their families. The first
thing the US did was take over the oil fields and all
operations. They attempted to break the union.
The invasion of Iraq had one main purpose, to control
the richest supply of oil. Anyone who has ever played
a game of "Risk" knows the person that controls the
resources wins.
I feel there is mounting evidence to suggest that an
inquiry be called for and full disclosure of motives
and methods for setting up this invasion be as Gaghan
so aptly put it, "transparent."
What we need now is a true leader. Who is willing to
stand up and say we will no longer engage in what is a
mired and convoluted seizing of power. The workers of
Iraq are strong intelligent people. They want the US
and Britain out because they are not there for
freedom, they are there for oil--point blank, no more
questions.
Gaghan's Traffic was a bold and magnificent gaze at
the drug trade. As a child growing up in Miami, I too
write about that world, but from the eyes of a
teenager. It is a frightening world because you can
never be sure whom to trust.
I have plans to see the film, "Syriana" tonight, I
can't wait!
