From: SF Bay View <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Why would anyone read an obscure little paper like the Bay View or check us out at <http://www.sfbayview.com/>www.sfbayview.com? Yet millions do. Maybe we re saying something that people are hungry to hear.
The power of the rebel press, the media that serve oppressed people in the U.S., exploded in the national consciousness when more than a million people undocumented immigrants and their supporters marched in Los Angeles and in cities around the country. Spanish-language media is credited with inspiring the masses to take those bold steps. What else can that power accomplish? Look at the photo on our home page a sea of people risking deportation to demand their rights. That's how many signatures we need statewide by April 30 to qualify the Limit Eminent Domain initiative for the November ballot (get the petition at <http://www.limiteminentdomain.org/>www.LimitEminentDomain.org or call the Bay View at (415) 671-0789). If our Brown brothers and sisters could brave the wrath and terror of homeland security, we can get those signatures and stop Redevelopment from gobbling up our neighborhood and spitting us out. We may have little more than a month to convince the San Francisco Board of Supervisors to stop the Redevelopment Agency s land grab of Bayview Hunters Point. A successful petition drive will be extremely persuasive. Without the power of eminent domain, Redevelopment is toothless! The revolution is ready and waiting for us to push it over the top. Everywhere, people are organizing: Black Catholics still refuse to give up St. Augustine s in New Orleans, M1 is re-igniting the youth with political rap, the Fillmore is standing up to the SFPD, rape victims are speaking truth to power in Haiti, Venezuela is warming and winning the hearts and minds of the poor in the U.S. For a strong dose of inspiration and motivation, enjoy these outstanding stories and more in this week s Bay View: A sea of people as far as the eye could see: Blacks and immigrants call for unity! by Nunu Kidane, <http://www.sfbayview.com/032906/aseaofpeople032906.shtml>http://www.sfbayview.com/032906/aseaofpeople032906.shtml Dear Supervisors, tell Redevelopment NO! by Sharon Martinas, <http://www.sfbayview.com/032906/dearsupervisors032906.shtml>http://www.sfbayview.com/032906/dearsupervisors032906.shtml San Franciscans call on Supervisors to stand up against Redevelopment by Carol Harvey, <http://www.sfbayview.com/032906/standup032906.shtml>http://www.sfbayview.com/032906/standup032906.shtml Don t miss the breaking news in the sidebar.
