"Taking It to the Streets"

Bill Rumble, NEDC President, discusses historic immigrants rights
controversy

Sometimes it is quite easy to recognize an
historical moment. In the past few weeks, more than
two million Americans have demonstrated against
proposed immigration reform measures. 300,000 took
to the streets of Chicago. Tens of thousands marched
in Costa Mesa, in normally conservative
Orange County. Two weeks ago, between 500,000
and one million demonstrators jammed the streets of
downtown Los Angeles. It was, by far, the most
massive demonstration in the history of the city. By

The Long War

Democratic candidates and officeholders need to lead, not follow, in
getting America out of Iraq

Two weeks ago, I attended my first antiwar rally in
more than 35 years. After church, my wife, daughter,

soldiers and others like them, who?if they
survived?were then mostly not among my fellow
protesters at Columbia, just as two weeks ago
veterans from the Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts
were not obviously present.

On the other hand, I felt the familiar
heartsickness that my country was again pursuing a
senseless war of subjugation under the guise of
bringing freedom to the unfortunate peoples of
distant lands....

California Democratic Council Convention
Statewide candidate debates mix with club management and issue-oriented
workshops

The California Democratic Council?s 54th Annual
Convention, held in Santa Clara, March 24th to 26th,
drew 250 representatives from perhaps three dozen
Democratic clubs from throughout California. Joining
delegates from six or eight other LA County clubs,
NEDC?s two representatives were the only ones from
Los Angeles itself.....
