Social Justice Student Summit Cal State University Fullerton Saturday, April 22, 2006 Join passionate students and community members at this empowering Summit. Share strategies, learn from community leaders, and become an active participant in the democratic process through community service, civic engagement, advocacy, and social justice. The Social Justice Student Summit is dedicated to presenting a "Green Summit." Through our efforts to utilize recycled materials, sweatshop-free apparel, and organic food, the purpose of the "Green Summit" is to encourage participants to make everyday choices based on environmentally conscious and socially responsible decisions. JOIN US TO CELEBRATE EARTH DAY! SUMMIT HIGHLIGHTS KEYNOTE SPEAKER TOM HAYDEN: Known as the "single greatest figure of the 1960s student movement," Hayden is a powerful and inspiring individual who will share his years of experience in actively engaging community members and students to be the agents of social change. Through forty years of activism, politics and writing, he has made social justice his life's journey. EMPOWERING WORKSHOPS: The Summit will feature interactive, thoughtful and engaging workshops on the ongoing civil rights movement, environmental justice movements, labor solidarity movements, women's struggles, immigrant rights' struggles, grassroots organizing, fair trade and sweatshop-free awareness, and community development and activism. Workshops will focus not only on educating participants, but also empowering them to bring about change in our communities. FREE LUNCH: Made from organic materials and featuring vegan and vegetarian options, all food throughout the day will represent our socially responsible choices. RESOURCE FAIR: An all day resource fair featuring campus and community organizations will provide opportunities to get involved in and around the community.
