#4 "America's Hate Groups", SPLC Speaker in Mission
Viejo Thursday, April 27th
From: "Jan Meslin" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
"America's Hate Groups"
Thursday evening, April 27, 7 pm at
Tapestry: a Unitarian Universalist Congregation,
formerly the Unitarian Universalist Church of South County.
25801 Obrero Drive #9 in Mission Viejo
Dont miss this event! David Holthouse from the Southern
Poverty Law Center is visiting the area and will be speaking.
His talk will include a general history of the SPLC followed
by the history of the Intelligence Project division of the SPLC
(which began as Klan Watch in the 1980's). There will also
be a specific discussion about the current number and
types of organized "hate groups" in the U.S., with a heavy
focus on the white supremacist involvement in the border
militias in our area.
A professional investigative journalist since 1995,
Mr. Holthouse has worked undercover as a neo-Nazi
skinhead and has written extensively about the rising
covert participation of neo-Nazis in the anti-immigration
militia movement, including the high-profile Minuteman
Civil Defense Corps. He is the associate editor of Intelligience
Report, a watchdog publication dedicated to monitoring and
exposing the activities of neo-Nazi and other white
supremacist organizations in the United States.
A free-will donation is suggested.
Refreshments follow the presentation.

More on Caught in the Crossfire:
The plight of the civilians is the unreported story of the
Iraq War. The refugees of Falluja risked their lives to
tell their story to the world.
http://www.conceptionmedia.net/projects/caughtinthecrossfire/index.html
In November 2004, the American military took siege of
the ancient city of Falluja, Iraq a city comparable to the
size of Cincinnati, Ohio with a population of at least 250,000.
The American attack on Falluja, and the subsequent costs
to the people there, has been a humanitarian, social, moral
and ethical disaster; yet the American government and
media have largely ignored the plight of the innocent victims.
The refugees of Falluja risked their lives in order to tell their
story to the world through the groundbreaking new documentary
film, Caught in the Crossfire.

#6 Global Night Commute for Northern Uganda
Saturday, April 29th in Costa Mesa
From: Crystal <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
GLOBAL NIGHT COMMUTE
Saturday, April 29th, 2006 in Costa Mesa
Northern Uganda has been called the humanitarian
crisis in the world today because of the lack of
attention. 1.7 million people have been forcibly
displaced, an estimated 20- 50,000 children abducted
to fight as soldiers, tens of thousands of children
commuting nightly, and 130 people die a day in
Northern Uganda as a result of violence.
On April 29TH in over 130 cities across the country,
thousands are lying down to demand our government
take a stand and put an end to the need for night
commuting, child abduction, and war in Northern
Uganda.
We're meeting at Orange Coast College, near the corner
of Harbor and Adams, at 5:30. We will then be walking
to Triangle Square (off of Harbor and 19th Street)
where we will spend the night on Level 5 of the
parking structure.

Some new projects within San Clemente Food Not

Books Not Bombs. BNB collects and redistrubutes reading
material, preferably progressive and historical writings,
and offers them to the community at no cost. BNB looks to
collect, among others, childrens books to be distrubuted to
Las Palmas Elememtary School, located across from the
park which SCFNB serves at.
Finally, SCFNB has begun a small collection of youth working

#7 Every Sunday evening in Huntington Beach:
"Peace vigil every Sunday night at the foot of the
Huntington Beach Pier, 7-8 pm
It's hard for most people to imagine a world at peace.
We are a very small group of people who believe that
this is indeed possible and that peace will happen once
enough people believe that it can. So we stand at the
pier every Sunday night with a sign that says:
"Visualize World Peace. It's up to you".
We also believe in non-violence both physically
and in our thoughts. We will discuss peace and
non-violence with anyone who is rational and
smile quietly at those who aren't. We hold this vigil
in a spirit of dignity and respect for all as we try
to build bridges with those who don't share our
philosophy.
Please bring a candle or just help us hold up our
banner (no signs please; we have our banner!)
