TAKE BACK CONGRESS
Dear Friend:
As the disastrous, tragic war on Iraq continues, as
young soldiers perish, and as thousands of innocents
are killed, many Democrats in Congress support keeping
our troops in Iraq. I have decided to run for the U.S.
Congress in the 29th District in the Democratic Party
primary on June 6th, because my Congressman, Adam
Schiff is one of those Democrats. I support our troops
by calling for an immediate withdrawal from Iraq.
As over 800 billion dollars are spent this year on
wars and the defense budget, 46 million people are
without health insurance, high school drop out rates
are increasing, Medicare and Veterans benefits are
slashed, student loans are gutted and the list goes on
and on. Democrats like Congressman Schiff cannot
deliver to constituents because of their support for
the endless warfare and the bloated defense budget,
leaving other programs without funds. Now, as the
Bush/Cheney Administration threatens yet another war
on Iran, few Democrats are speaking out. Help me to
speak truth to power.
Besides running for office, my campaign for Congress
is about: changing the Democratic Party, building a
larger coalition for peace and justice, educating
voters (please review my website) and building a
longer term voter outreach project for 2008 and
beyond.
As a husband, father, recent grandfather and a life-
long peace and justice activist, I am dedicated and
committed to a progressive, democratic and just
America. My core value of fairness, compassion,
opportunity, freedom, honesty and integrity motivate
me to challenge the culture of violence and perpetual
war.
During my 20-year career in the labor movement, I
fought for change. Now, I need your support to make
change on a much larger scale. I am deeply grateful
for the endorsements of Reverend James Lawson, former
Senator Tom Hayden, former Assemblyman Scott Wildman,
Steve Rohde, Teresa and Blase Bonpane, Andy Griggs,
Anne Marie Staas, Americans for Democratic Action,
Progressive Democrats of America and many others. I
look forward to your support and to seeing you on May
13th at the home of Anne Marie Staas and Dr. Saul
Niedorf
Please call (323) 262-2400 to RSVP.
Sincerely,
Bob McCloskey
