HONOREE IDA KINNEY

At the age of one hundred years Ida Kinney can recount the reluctant
awakening of a nation to the realization that the words of the
constitution are a promise that must be fulfilled, and she can tell you
in the sweetest way that she had the privilege of being one of those
"walkers and shakers." A teacher all of her life, twenty years ago, she
was a co-founder of the Paul Robeson Community Center, for which she is
being honored this year.

The brightest of twinkling eyes, and the warmest contagious smile are
the first impressions that greet the lucky person who has the delightful
experience of speaking and listening to our friend Ida Kinney. Having
spent her early childhood in the home of strong, community involved
grandparents who came out of slavery in America, she absorbed the
knowledge of her own self worth and the value of working with "all
decent folks" to create a decent life. She went on to two long and happy
partnerships with husbands who shared her activism in the struggle for
equal rights in labor representation, housing, education, and the right
to human dignity. If you look up those last words in any dictionary you
will see the strong countenance of the beautiful Ida Kinney.

HONOREE DON WHITE

The Paul Robeson Community Center proudly honors Don White, lead
organizer of CISPES, the Committee in Solidarity with the People of El
Salvador, community activist, an internationalist, a champion for peace
for a life-long commitment to progressive activism in the struggle to
expand the horizons of the civil and human rights and the construction
of bridges of friendship among peoples of different ethnicity's,
nationalities and races throughout the world.

Known as the most persuasive "Pitch Man" in Southern California, Don
White has helped raise thousands of dollars for Progressive Causes and
has helped organize & coordinate rallies and demonstrations throughout
Southern California. Don was a student activist in the 1950's organizing
on campus against the injustice of the Un-American Activities of the
Committee of U.S. House of Representatives, was later a teacher and has
spent the last 30 years promoting justice and peace, especially with
regard to the peoples of El Salvador and Central America and is
currently a member of the Local Advisory Board of KPFK (90.7) and the
Pacifica National Board and Southern California Americans for Democratic
Action..

ANGELA SANBRANO

Angela Sanbrano is Executive Director of CARECEN, The Central American
Resource Center in Los Angeles. Prior to this she founded and served as
the Executive Director of Centro Internacional de Solidaridad in San
Salvador, a non-governmental organization that hosted over 400 human
rights delegations from 12 countries to assure that the 1992 peace
accords were being correctly implemented. Angela also served as National
Director of CISPES, The Committee in Solidarity with the People of El
Salvador (CISPES) from 1983 - 1992. She is currently the Secretary of
the Board of the National Immigration Forum and also serves on the Board
of the National Council of La Raza. She holds a Bachelor of Science
degree from Pitzer College , Claremont Colleges and a Juris Doctor from
People's School of Law .

THE PAUL ROBESON COMMUNITY CENTER

Celebrating our 20th Anniversary this year, the Robeson Center promotes
inter racial and inter cultural understanding among our community and
our youth. We want our kids to be aware of the many different
communities that constitute Los Angeles and be able to communicate
effectively with the people who live in them. To achieve this goal, the
Center's latest program is our Youth Radio Training Program, designed to
show young people how they can learn more about the world around them
and share their knowledge with others-through journalism. We also are
sponsoring an Oral History Project: "Our Living History --
Encountering Our History Through the Lives of the People Who Made It",
which records the memories of elder community leaders and activists. We
also sponsor Community Forums, Cinco de Mayo & Juneteenth Celebrations &
much more. Your participation & donations help this critical work!
