Ed, please direct people to the IMC site for the full, updated
story on the farm, plus pics, video, and audio.
www.la.indymedia.org Thanks, -Anna

Hi, all. Check out the story on today's LA Times' front page,
and consider making a visit part of your Memorial weekend
agenda. It's a rare and refreshing alternative to the usual
picture of So. Central as well as a model for all parts of our
city and society. Natural foods grown by cooperating neighbors,
in the face of business as usual and the destruction of the earth.
As Daryl Hannah says in the story it's 'a situation of the needy
versus the greedy.' I'll bet you didn't know she's Haskell Wexler's
niece. Good stock.
Arlington West, next to the SM Pier and the films at the Watts
Towers Art Center also provide fitting, meaningful programs.
Do something different and interesting this weekend.
Ed

Red Alert!

Encampment and tree-sit to resist the eviction and save the South
Central Farm has begun!! The L.A. County Sheriffs Department has
received notice to execute the eviction of the farmers and supporters at
the South Central Farm. The Farm and farmers need your help now!!

If you are willing to encamp with us our legal team will offer counsel and
you will also be given a, "Know Your Rights" Training as you will be risking
arrest. There is also a Unity Principles form which all participants in the
encampment must sign in order to be part of the community tree sit/
encampment. The greater the numbers encamped increases our chances
of success. Others have now joined Joan Baez, Julia Butterfly and
John Quigley in tree-sitting. They welcome your presence.

Those who cannot stay in the farm help by coming to daily vigils, becoming
legal observers and bringing supplies to those inside. Also, bring a chair
or anything you would need to be an active witness.

The time has come to show the politicians, developer and global community
that we are serious about environmental justice in South Central Los
Angeles. The greening of L.A. starts with the preservation of the South
Central Farm. Bombard the local officials with calls and emails to save this
oasis. We want a livable city!! We want the Farm!!

FYI: The contract has expired and we again stand with you defending our
dignity.

   How can you help?

Send a letter to the politicians from our site:

I won't drown on that levee and you ain't gonna' break my back
      31 minutes . 2006

I Won't Drown on that Levee... chronicles the failed evacuation of the
Orleans Parish Prison during Hurricane Katrina and the building of a
makeshift prison behind the local bus depot, both set within the larger
environment of abandonment, criminalization and brutality that characterized
so much of the state's hurricane response. While centering on these prisons
and criminalization, the video also addresses the portrayal of the hurricane
as a man-made disaster, where fault lines of race and class draw
contridictions of saving lives versus saving property, of who is named a
"survivor" and who is named a "looter," of who the state saves and who is
left to drown.

      Corrections
      2001 . 58 minutes

Corrections is the story of justice turned to profit, of how the "war
on crime" has found new investors: venture capital and for-profit,
corporate -owned prisons. Taking you from a prison trade show to the
crumbling communities who will feed into and staff their booming industry,
it explores shows prisons have fast become the accepted solution to
unemployment and housing crises, crumbling schools, the loss of livable
wages and the destruction of the welfare state.
