WHO: Costa Mesa residents, Tonantzin Collective
WHAT: March Against Militarization
WHY: Bush plans to send 6,000 troops to patrol civil society along the
Mexican border. Costa Mesa Mayor Alan Mansoor, a member of the Minuteman
Project vigilante hate group, calls for an even greater deployment.* Mansoor
also voted to deputize local Costa Mesa officers with federal immigration
enforcement duties and to close the Job Center. We feel this is an attack on
our community.
Protest the Mayor�s anti-immigrant, pro-military agenda!
Mansoor alleges that the MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with ICE
(Immigration and Customs Enforcement) will only affect aggravated felons.
However, this arrangement provides no protection for victims of crimes,
witnesses to crimes or suspects taken into custody but never convicted of any
offense.
Mansoor and the City Council have ties to border vigilantes and
Martin Millard, a
white supremacist author.** We are concerned that this program will
arbitrarily target Costa Mesa�s largely immigrant and working class
community.

CU�NDO: 8 de julio, el s�bado, a las 5 de la tarde
D�NDE: Costa Mesa, en la esquina de la 19 y la Placentia, en frente del
mercado El Metate
QUI�NES: Residentes de Costa Mesa, el Colectivo Tonantzin
POR QU�: Bush pretende mandar a 6.000 tropas a patrullar a la sociedad
civil cerca de la frontera. El Alcalde de Costa Mesa y un militante de los
Minutemen, Alan Mansoor, exige una presencia milita! r a�n m� s masiva.*
Adem�s, Mansoor vot� a favor de hacer a los agentes locales de polic�as
agentes de inmigraci�n y a cerrar el centro de jornaleros en Costa Mesa.
Opinamos que estas medidas han sido un ataque contra nuestra comunidad.
Denunciamos la agenda anti-imigrante y pro-militar del Alcalde.
Mansoor alega que la controvertida propuesta �ICE� solamente afecta a los
convictos de ciertos delitos graves. Sin embargo, este programa no tiene
NINGUNA protecci�n para las v�ctimas de delitos, los testigos, ni para los
sospechos detenidos pero nunca hallados culpables de ning�n delito.
Las amistades descaradas del Alcalde y los concejales Bever y
Monahan con los Minutemen y el escritor neonazi, Martin Millard,** tambi�n
nos preocupan. Tememos que este programa arbitraria e injustamente acose a la
comunidad de Costa Mesa, la cual incluye a muchos inmigrantes y trabajadores.
