2A) EVERY SUNDAY - Setup at 7:15AM, removal at dusk
THE ARLINGTON WEST MEMORIAL PROJECT
In Santa Monica, on the beach, just north of the Santa Monica Pier.
Now 1000 crosses honoring the 2500+ US soldiers
killed in Iraq, plus recognition that Iraqi
deaths would fill up the whole beach (and it's a
big beach!). Yes, there are also some stars and crescents.
Volunteers BADLY needed! This is becoming a gigantic effort!
This very moving, nonpartisan memorial is put on
by the Los Angeles Chapter of Veterans For Peace.
VFP plans to do this every Sunday until the
United States pulls the troops out of Iraq.
Arlington West has become a very important part of this movement.
Arlington West has a new web site!
http://addictedtowar.com/arwest.html
Also check out the Arlington West Film site

Anyone in the Los Angeles area who would like to
help please call Ed Ellis at 818-887-2593. Press
contact is Tonia Young 310-455-2688 or 310-703-3964.

3B) This Fall, WE DECLARE PEACE! (A Major UFPJ Mobilization)
The latest terrorism scare, coming hours after a
major electoral defeat for the war in Iraq, shows
how low the current administration is willing to
go. They'll do anything to keep the people
frightened and silent, in best fascist tradition.
It's time to answer fear with courage -- to step
out of our personal comfort zones and take more
resolute action than ever to end the War in Iraq,
and prevent a far worse one in Iran.
For this reason, United for Peace and Justice and
its many member groups and allies are declaring
peace this fall. We are using a variety of tools
designed to help our movement tap into the broad
antiwar sentiment that exists in every corner of
the nation. Elections and political tensions in
the US have created an unprecedented opportunity
to reach out more broadly, bring more people into
the work at whatever level of activity they are
comfortable with, and raise the political costs of the war.
The Declaration of Peace concludes with a
powerful week of nonviolent civil disobedience
and direct action from September 21-28, targeting
pro-war members of Congress and coordinated by
the nationwide Declaration of Peace campaign, http://declarationofpeace.org/ .
Now is the time to start planning an action in
your community for Monday, September 25, when
there will be local NVCDs around the country,
targeting pro-war members of Congress. More information:
