Bimini at Second St. SHARED STREETS MEETING Who will be there: Residents of Bimini, White House Pl. and Heliotrope; representatives from Councilman Eric Garcetti's office, City of Los Angeles Bureau of Street Services, City of Los Angeles Department of Transportation. Purpose of the Shared Street Project: The project will be an opportunity to make these streets more pedestrian and environmentally friendly with the goal of promoting more use of the transit system and reducing reliance on automobiles. The design may include widening of sidewalks, installing permeable pavements, narrowing the streets, planting trees and gardens, installing street furniture, making public art, installing community car-sharing, and more. We want to hear your ideas. Background: In 2001, based on a proposal developed by L.A. Eco-Villager Joe Linton to the MTA's Annual Call for Projects, the City was granted $600,000 with the goal of completing pedestrian improvements and neighborhood beautification on Bimini Pl in L.A. Eco-Village and Heliotrope (about 1/2 mile northwest of L.A. Eco-Village). These monies are becoming available now in 2006 and 2007. With the creative input of neighbors, other stakeholders, and our broader constituency, we expect these changes to be completed in the coming year. FREE. No reservations required. - - - Saturday, 9/9/06 from 2 pm to 10 pm. FREE Block party on Bimini Place. Everyone's invited. Yes, we're closing the street down in L.A.
