Shut Down Armed Forces Recruitment Center Monday, September 25th (10:00 AM - 1:00 PM) 7060 Hollywood Blvd. (between La Brea and Highland) More than 20 people will block the entrance to the Armed Forces Recruitment Center to prevent military recruitment for that day. They will remain there until 7pm when the Center is closed or until they are arrested. Also relatives of Army Specialist AgustÃn Aguayo, 34 -- a conscientious objector (CO) who went absent without leave (AWOL) in Germany on September 2nd when the Army tried to ship him to Iraq by force, will attend and be available to speak before he turns himself in on Tuesday to US military authorities in Southern California. Aguayo is the first U.S. soldier stationed in Germany to publicly refuse deployment to Iraq. His wife Helga Aguayo will be available for interview in Spanish and in English. Agustin is a victim of lies and misinformation by military recruiters. Member organizations of the Declaration of Peace Coalition have announced plans to participate in candlelight marches, vigils and non-violent civil disobedience starting September 21st at Congressional district offices, government offices and in Washington DC at the Capitol and White House. The Declaration of Peace was created through discussions beginning last January between student groups, religious leaders and secular peace organizations whose goal was to end the war in Iraq. The Declaration of Peace is a coalition of over 330 national, regional and local religious, peace, social justice, veteran and student groups, including the American Friends Service Committee, Interfaith Communities United for Justice and Peace (ICUJP), United for Peace and Justice, Iraq Veterans Against the War, Student Peace Action Network, Catholic Worker, Stop-the-War Ministry Team of First Congregational Church in Long Beach, Whittier Area Peace and Justice Coalition, Coalition for World Peace, Foothills Peace Coalition and Veterans for Peace. The American Friends Service Committee is an international peace and justice organization with a regional office in the downtown Los Angeles area.
