NEWS RELEASE:
WILL DURST WRAPS UP MEDIA ACCOUNTABILITY CONFERENCE

Renowned media research group Project Censored is hosting the first
annual Media Accountability Conference to mark its 30th release of
the Top Under-covered news stories of the year. The conference takes
place Friday and Saturday, November 3 and 4, 2006, on the Sonoma
State University campus.

“I have long been persuaded that the news media collectively will be
sent to hell not for our sins of commission, but our sins of
omission,” says columnist Molly Ivins. “Happily,” she
continues, “the perfect news peg, as we say in the biz, for Media
Accountability Day already exists—it’s Project Censored’s annual
release.”

Investigative journalists and researchers are gathering from around
the country to present important, well-documented stories that the
mainstream failed to cover and to discuss the current media system –
what is covered, what isn’t covered, and why.

Steven E. Jones will present the Keynote address Friday night,
November 3. Dr. Jones is a physicist from Brigham Young University
who helped co-found Scholars for 9-11 Truth, an organization which
advocates for a more critical and thorough analysis of the events
that took place on that day. Despite increasing controversy and
external pressure, Dr. Jones continues to bring forward information
and raise difficult questions about the 9-11 tragedy.

His keynote will cover the current data coming out about the fall of
towers #1, 2, and 7. He will discuss the filtering of such
information; which stories receive some mainstream coverage and which
do not.

Conference panels cover a host of hidden stories: from the water
crisis that everyone but the U.S. now recognizes, to the well-known
government contractor that recently (and illegally) sold nuclear
materials to Iran. Topics addressed include internet control and the
control of information, growing domestic militarization, the impact
of the global economy on our daily lives, conflicts of interest at
all levels of government, and more.

The conference ends Saturday night with the Real News Awards,
honoring the researchers who work so well to unearth the important
but hidden news stories, followed by a performance by comedian Will
Durst. Mr. Durst, a commentator on current events, appears often on
television and currently co-hosts the Will and Willie Show on Air
America.

Music, food, and a no-host bar will also be featured throughout the
evening.
