Homeless and activists with the Los Angleles Coaliton to End Hunger
And Homelessness, and LA CAN, are staging a series of high-profile
actions in order to rip the lid off of the current mass arrests and
harassment of homeless people on Skid Row.

"Since late August LAPD has engaged in the largest mass harrassment
of poor people in LA history --the city's latest arrest statistics
prove that on Skid Row now they are going after innocent homeless
people --and claiming we are all 'dangerous drug dealers' --and City
Attorney Rocky Delgadillo's lawsuits against hospitals for dumping'
about 11 homeless people on Skid Row are completely bogus," states a
spokeperson for the group.

"The California Constitution declares that humane care of the
homeless is a County responsibility including the povision of food
clothing adequate housing and medical care--If the City of LA should
be suing anybody over the fact that homeless people released from
hospitals have no place to go, they should sue the County Board of
Supervisors, and demand redress for three decades of homelessness in
L.A.;" adds David Busch, a homeless community activist who made
front page headlines on 11/17/06, in the L.A. Daily News, (Rocky
Takes a Beating) when he and other activists dive-bombed a Delgadillo
press conference --to interrupt the City's latest propaganda campaign
to clear downtown of the poor.

Activists are urgently asking supporters to make phone calls and
email LA Mayor Villiariagosa this week --in order to demand the
so-called "progressive" Mayor take responsibility for the mass
arrests; and to meet with Skid Row homeless people and their
advocates calling for "sick beds."

"We are demanding that the Mayor do something besides disgusting
turkey-shoveling and 'foot-washing' 'photo-ops' --we want him to get
on the phone this week, and demand that Skid Row shelters stop
kicking all sick people on Skid Row to the curb every morning at 6
a.m.. We immediately need about 150 sick beds on Skid Row for the
general population of homeless people who are ill with things like
the cold and flu --and who shouldn't be 'dumped' anymore by the
shelters to the curb; and by the hundreds by the City in the County
Hospital waiting room; and the County Jail," states Busch.
