Bush and first lady Laura Bush to deliver this "Prayer of Peace" at the lighting of the National Christmas Tree in Washington, D.C.: Oh God, is there anything the world needs more today than peace? Is there anything children need more than peace, wherever they live? We thank you for Christmas, which offers the glorious possibility of peace, even when and where it appears impossible. We celebrate hope that comes alive through the children with their happy sounds and their innocent smiles. So we can turn on the bright lights of Christmas, and in the trouble and turmoil of our world in fear, we can face tomorrow with hope in our hearts and a smile on our faces. For we remember Mother Teresa who said, "Smile. It is the beginning of Peace." So, we are ready for the happy sounds and sights of Christmas bells ringing, children laughing, choirs singing the happy hugs, joyous reunions, flowers, wreaths, ribbons, garlands and the lights on the Christmas tree. We seek your blessing on all those in uniform in harms way and their families. We pray for our President and his family, and for all our national leaders. May this truly be the season of "peace on earth, good will to all." Amen.
