To hundreds of friends and colleagues around the world--Happy Holidays! I am embarking on a new documentary and co-directing it with award winning editor Bill Haugse in Los Angeles. Our documentary is temporarily called, "The Resistance Project" and will paint a broad picture of resistance to the war in Iraq:
**U.S. soldiers who have refused to deploy to Iraq, some of whom have already been courtmartialed, served prison time and have been dishonorably discharged, and some of whom are facing upcoming courtmartials and prison sentences. We are also interviewing soldiers who have been AWOL and are now coming out of hiding to express their outrage at this immoral and illegal war. **Active duty soldiers who have signed onto an Appeal for Redress which is an appeal to stop the war and bring the troops home. This Appeal is within their legal rights, as long as they work on it on their own time and in civilian clothes. The Appeal will be delivered to members of Congress in January 2007. **High School students who have been contacted by military recruiters and who have "opted-out" of joining the military by getting their parents to sign op-out statements. **School boards, colleges/universities banning ROTC from schools, campuses, etc. **Church leaders who have been outspoken about the war and face gov't harrassment which they are fighting via a national campaign. **Individual citizens across the country who have spoken out against the war and have faced gov't harrassment, loss of jobs, etc. and are fighting back. Woven into this picture will be: **The reasons why the U.S. invaded Iraq **How the cost of the war has drained our domestic economy **How the war is illegal--testimony to be given at an upcoming "Citizens' Hearing on the Legality of U.S. Actions in Iraq" from former UN Assistant Sec'y General, former commissioned officers in the military, professors of international law, former Chief Prosecutor at the Nuremberg trials, etc. **How the war is immoral **How Iraq vets have returned home with post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, suicides, disability, and dealing with unemployment, homelessness, divorce, drug and alcohol problems, etc. similar to what Vietnam vets went through. **Comparisons between GI resisters now and GI resisters during the Vietnam war **How millions of Americans are against this war/increasing numbers of protesters at marches, etc. PLEASE E-MAIL YOUR IDEAS AND SUGGESTIONS FOR OUR DOCUMENTARY. ALSO...IF YOU HAVE CONTACTS WHOM WE SHOULD INTERVIEW ON CAMERA, PLEASE E-MAIL ME ASAP. We want to finish this documentary before the 2008 Presidential Election and will need to raise at least $300,000. Right now we have been paying out of pocket to buy some video equipment, pay a videographer to shoot interviews, pay for travel expenses, etc. IF YOU KNOW OF ANY MAJOR DONORS/INVESTORS INTERESTED IN SUPPORTING THIS DOCUMENTARY, OR IF YOU HAVE CONTACTS WITH U.S./EUROPEAN TELEVISION WHO MAY BE INTERESTED IN MAKING A PRE-SALE, PLEASE CONTACT ME ASAP. In 2 months, we will have a trailer and a treatment, including a budget, ready to be mailed out.
