Subject: [CubaLosAngeles] Action!-LA Cuba Lobby Day Monday January 22
Hello LA Cuba Coalition-
As we discussed at Sunday's meeting, here is the action plan for
Monday Jan 22 local lobbying effort. All those who were not there,
you are encouraged to take part, too, and to visit or at LEAST call
your Congressional Rep. on that day in their LA and DC offices. See below.
Also, as I clearly stated at the meeting, the point of this is only
slightly to "reach" a Congressional member. It is much more about
TAKING the ACTION, then PUBLICIZING the ACTION. (It will be in the
Harbor Area's Random Lengths on Jan 25...any others?....please post).
Additionally, the "message" is simple, small, and thus,
understandable to the US public. We are, of course, about much more,
but this effort is targeted. We "assume" a Democratic policy is to "
completely rollback" Bush's Cuba policy. If it is not, it is THEY who
must answer for it, not us....You are of course, free to say whatever
you wish, the POINT is to DO the action. Paz.
OK, here is the action for next MONDAY JANUARY 22. You are encouraged to:
1) Visit your Congressional Rep.'s LA office (call before, tell them
you are coming, ask to meet with someone. They must oblige)
2) Call both the LA office and the DC office on Monday Jan 22.
3) Call EACHOTHER'S LA Rep. office, too
(SEE "MESSAGE" IDEA BELOW)
***Please call me (310) 833-9945 (just leave a message with you and
your Reps name) if you are going to do this so I can add your
Representative on to the press release.
paz

LOCAL CUBA ACTIVISTS LOBBY CONGRESS TO ROLLBACK BUSH'S CUBA POLICIES
On Monday January 22, local Cuba activists visited and called key
Democratic Congressional Representatives in the Los Angeles area to
lobby for a "rollback" of Bush administration policies toward Cuba.
The LA Cuba Coalition, which organized the effort, focused its
message on the re-instatement of People to People travel,
professional travel, and family travel by Cuban-Americans to the island.
"We want the new Democratic Congress to know we will be 100% behind
them in a complete rollback of Bush's Cuba policies since he took
office in 2001", states Rachel Bruhnke, member of the Coalition.
"The American people need to be aware that the Bush administration
has cut over 90% of all legal US travel to the Cuba since 2002.
Before Bush, we were well on our way to increased citizen cooperation
between our two countries. There are now many sectors of the American
public who are outraged by Bush's nonsensical repression of our good
efforts", states Bruhnke.
Congressional Representatives who were called and/or visited were:
Rep. Xavier Becerra (D-31st) (213) 483-1425
Rep. Howard L. Berman (D-28th) (818) 994-7200
