[Hi John, could you forward this to your lists? Thanks!] -------------------- SAVE ACADEMIA SEMILLAS DEL PUEBLO!
LA's only indigenous charter school, Academia Semillas del Pueblo, has been under relentless attack from racist, right-wing talk radio hosts like KABC's Doug McIntyre and the John and Ken Show on KFI, who are demanding that the school be shut down, calling the students and teachers "terrorists" for teaching indigenous history and supporting immigrants' rights. This Thursday the LA Unified School District's Board of Trustees will be voting on whether to renew the school's charter; students and parents are asking for solidarity from the community. Today (Monday), they began a four-day fast as a part of their efforts to save the school. All members of the public are invited to participate today in a sunset ceremony at Olvera Street Plaza in downtown LA: Fast for the Future and our Coming Seven Generations Monday, March 26, 2007 4:30 PM - 7:00 PM Location: Plaza Olvera Kiosko/Gondola between Main St and Los Angeles St, just west of Union Station/north of the 101 Fwy Also, on Thursday there will be a march to the LA school board hearing. The march will go from Olvera Street Plaza to the LA Unified School District Headquarters at 3rd and Beaudry in downtown LA. People will gather at noon and the school board will begin at 2 PM.
