Please forward widely: Thursday, May 17, oral arguments will be heard in federal court in Pennsylvania on Mumia Abu-Jamal's appeal of his conviction and his death sentence in the shooting death of a Philadelphia police officer two decades ago. This may be his last, best hope of overturning the conviction due to evidence of police, prosecutorial and judicial misconduct.
Come learn more about the case and what you can do to help save the life and win the freedom of the former Black Panther, known as the "Voice of the Voiceless," at the Los Angeles premiere of the new film, "Framing an Execution," about the case of Mumia Abu-Jamal, narrated by noted actor and activist Danny Glover. The film showing will take place Thursday evening May 17 at 7:00 PM at the Southern California Library for Social Studies and Research, 6120 S. Vermont Avenue, Los Angeles (between Slauson and Gage). The event is sponsored by the Jericho Amnesty Coalition-Los Angeles. Speakers will address the recent developments in Mumia's case and new evidence of his innocence of the charges against him, and will situate the struggle to free Mumia in a campaign to free all political prisoners and rebuild the liberation movements out which they came. Donations will be requested to benefit Jericho's work around the cases of Mumia, the San Francisco 8 (former members and associates of the Black Panther Party facing conspiracy and murder charges in a case based on torture of the defendants and the state's witness), the Puerto Rican political prisoners and others.
