The exhibit Rostro YCorazón, will feature the works of bourgeoning local and nationally acclaimed Painters,Muralists and Graffiti artists; as well as include a youth art workshop and live music outdoors by punk rockers Deadbeat Sinatra and the progressive hip hop sounds of Olmeca. Djs Azul, Orator and Cesar will spin rock, hip hop, funk, soul, reggae, Latin, and world beatsall night long and Fidel Rodriguez (Divine Forces Radio KPFK) will Emcee the evening. An Aztec teaching to know oneself is to love oneself inspired the title of the art exhibit, Rostro Y Corazón. The people who are submitting artworks for this debut show are the faces of Boyle Heights. Each individual has selected a work that speaks his or her truth, said Juan Ochoa, Curator. The artists included in this art show are both established and up-and coming: Ruben Arellano, Senia Argumedo, Azul, Fernando Barragan, David Botello, Janet Dandridge, Duke, Elena Esparza, Ofelia Esparza, Ricardo Estrada, Emilia Garcia, Raul Gonzalez, Yolanda Gonzalez, Ivan Godinez, Dolores Gonzalez Haro, Heng, Huitzil, Angelo Logan, Sandra De La Loza, Joseph "Nuke" Montalvo, Espi Munoz, Ricardo Ortega, PHLOE, Michelle Juarez Taylor, Timoi and Nancy Tovar. First Street Studios Gallery is the brainchild of two Los Angeles-based Artists, Lilia Ramirez and Francisco Alvarez. The mission of the gallery is to promote a professional working studio space, gallery and retail gift store. Simultaneously contributing to the new emerging business community by providing, art classes, exhibits, workshops, and cultural events, said Ramirez. Francisco Alvarez has fifteen years of experience as a working artist and teaching as a Lead Instructor. His expertise has enabled him to maintain a for profit studio. He has completed professional certificates in Graphic Communications and Small Business Administration from Pasadena City College. His interest is to teach art classes for people of all ages. Lilia Ramirez is a Los Angeles based working artist since 1995. She has worked and exhibited in various galleries and art organizations, such as: Self-Help Graphics, William Raegh Photography Center, Homegirl Café, and Antigua Gallery. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from UCLA in World Arts and Culture. Alongside her own art endeavors, she champions youth in developing their creativity.
